Publishing Task 3

For CA2 I decided upon creating a web store that sells heavy metal vinyl's named 'Lucifer's Records', you can find a link to this website here - http://lucifersrecords.infinityfreeapp.com/?i=1

Migration

I migrated my website using the 'All in One WP Migration'  plugin which made migrating my entire website over to the Infinityfree hosting service quick and painless. I decided to use this plugin because I have experience using it from CA1 and because the plugin itself was free.

Theme

The theme I used for the general look of the website was the theme called 'Storefront' which was free and gave the website more of an official look to it. I changed the theme by changing its background colour from white to black.

Plugins

First plugin I used was WooCommerce, which made the website into a webstore quick and painless, the plugin came with all the features you would expect from an online store like a shop section, checkout, account and basket.

The second plugin I used was All in One SEO which gives me general tips on how to improve my posts in order to get them pushed to the public.

Thirdly I used Mail Poet to create a newsletter that would be sent out to customers when  they subscribe to the newsletter letting them know when something new is in stock.

Lastly I used WP Security which makes my website more secure.

Code Snippets

First code snippet I used was to remove comments from posts completely.

Second was a redirect code snippet but this turned out to not work properly so it is currently turned off.

Thirdly I used a code snippet to hide all categories but this also turned out to not work properly.

Lastly I used a code snippet that would show the current year on a post but like all the other code snippets, this did not work either.

Publishing Task 2

The What? For CA2, I want to create an online store that sells heavy metal records. The site will be named 'Lucifer's Records'. In terms of what kind of UX features I want, I would like to add a product description beside every product, by what band the record is, the song list and length of each individual track and as a second UX feature I would like to add the original album artwork of the records so that buyers instantly know what record they are buying. Screenshot from a Sentinel Records website https://uxdesign.cc/7-ux-features-for-a-better-product-page-595b097550e6 <---- link to a non-academic article describing 7 of the most important UX features. https://uxmag.com/articles/designing-the-perfect-button <--- link to a academic article on how to create a perfect button. The Why? Why do I want to create a website such as this? The answer is simple, I want an easily accessible store where a customer could at a glance know what they are buying, what is included in...

User Experience (UX) Explained for Best Practice Website Creation

The first talk I watched about Universal Design was given by Rebecca Ferguson who is a professional designer.  The talk is about how designing an already existing website that you might think is horrible is better than starting over. In the talk she goes over about first meeting the client to try and pin point what the problems are and what the client is trying to get out of the website they are trying to create, is it about boosting sales and pretty much what the goals and aspirations of the client are. Something that really stuck with me after watching this talk is how Rebecca mentioned how she tries to be adaptable with her clients. She mentioned that during her process of designing a website for a client she likes to constantly get feedback from said client in order to better gauge their goals and aspirations. She goes into more detail how her process and what she tries to do with her client is take them on a journey where the client can learn more about UX/UI Design and...
